“…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”

Jesus spoke these words to his disciples just before he ascended into heaven. The power he was referring to was of course the power of God. He poured out that power upon his church at the feast of Pentecost in the person of the Holy Spirit. The power that came from the Holy Spirit enabled those few simple disciples to do amazing things. It enabled them to heal the sick, turn thousands of hearts to Christ, and to convert an empire. We need to remember that power every time we engage in ministry because successful ministry depends on that power. Nothing of significance gets done in the church without it. To do ministry without it would be like trying to cut a lawn with a gaspowered mower that had no gas in it.

Imagine trying to push such a mower around your yard. Think of the result: sheer exhaustion. None of us would ever consider doing that, would we? Yet that is what we sometimes do in ministry. We sometimes try to do ministry under our own power rather than God’s power. When we do that all we get is exhaustion. Successful ministry is ministry that depends on the power of God. Successful ministry is ministry that taps into the power of God. Successful ministry is ministry that is Spirit empowered. When we have depended on God’s power, amazing things have happened at Elkton Presbyterian Church. If we continue to depend on God’s power amazing things will continue to happen here.

Yours in Christ,

Core Values

We believe love changes everything. Jesus’ love for us changed the world. Our love for Jesus transforms us. Love for our city will impact it.

We believe the church matters. Jesus speaks when the church gathers. He is honored and moves when we gather.

Because we serve a God who is extremely generous, we believe the church and its people should be extremely generous with its resources; finances, time, and people.

It’s not just who you know, but it’s who knows you that matters most. We are a church of groups. We don’t think anyone should do life alone.

Everything we do is driven by our vision. It if doesn’t line up, we don’t do it.

We are a church dedicated to serving our town and meeting real, tangible needs. We want to partner with the amazing people who are making amazing things happen.

We believe Jesus is worthy of all of our passion. We pour everything we have into everything we do.
